Mpox (previously known as Monkeypox) is a viral infection.
Symptoms start with cold/flu-like symptoms and progress to a rash with spots (which start flat, then fill with fluid) spreading over the body.
Mpox is spread by close contact, up until the spots heal.
There is an increase in cases in Australia.
In 2024, there have been 61 cases of Mpox detected in Queensland.so far mainly in gay or bisexual men.
There is a free vaccination for high risk individuals. So talk to your doctor if concerned.
