Since 1976, Kambu Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation for Health (Kambu Health) have been dedicated to serving Mob in Ipswich and west Moreton.
Ipswich residents Ken Dalton, Cecil Fisher, Roberta Thompson, Faye Carr, Bill Robertson, and Doreen Thompson came together as there was a real need for health care for our local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
From a room in Doreen Thompson’s house, our community received culturally appropriate health care from doctors who travelled from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Health Service in Brisbane, once a week.
Today, Kambu Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation for Health employs over 120 people; providing comprehensive medical, specialist, allied, and social health services and a range of early childhood, family, and community care programs to the Ipswich and west Moreton regions.
